Strategically located within proximity to Yangtze River, the residential development of Jiangwan Cheng Phase 3 is an extension of the riverfront experience on two counts. Bordered by a smaller river on two sides, the expression of water is also internalized as an extensive water feature that manifests itself as a series of cascades, stream, lake and a visually integrated raised pool. As a deliberate decision to distinct it from previous phases, the strong circular form of Phase 3 was conceived and modernized with careful articulation and crisp minimal intersection details, at times yielding to a series of linear urban galleries and gathering spaces that further celebrate the outward river vistas within the site. The juxtaposition of the dominant cloud-like forms against the timeless straight lines sparks an exciting tension that gives rise to dynamic outdoor spaces, clearly defining the intended spatial hierarchy of a major community plaza in the centre of the site and the more intimate community spaces between buildings. Generous open spaces provide the residents with event and function areas while the intermediate spaces include organic and farming rooms that offer natural respite from daily stress and encourage community participation and bonding amongst the residents. Careful sculpting and incorporation of garden spaces in Jiangwan Cheng Phase 3 bring the landscape beyond mere aesthetics, crafting a high quality natural environment that is ahead of its time.
