Yue Wan is a townhouse and apartment development on the outskirts of Chongqing, a modern city undergoing major transformation. Working within the spatial constraints of the horseshoe-shaped site, the landscape design was created as an abstract representation of Chongqing’s extraordinary topography, surrounded by mountains and at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers.
Modern and traditional influences combine to compose a contemporary Chinese landscape that evokes memories through symbolism and abstraction of the riverscape and the city. Strongly defined and classically rendered shapes and elements are featured throughout, from the honey-coloured stone colonnades and orthogonal pavilions, to sunken formal courtyards, reflection pools and an ornamental teahouse that together create an elegant pictorial narrative.
