The project is located in the core waterfront area along the Huangpu River and was formerly the Expo Apartments site for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. After redevelopment, it has been transformed into a high-end riverside residential community. As a post-Expo adaptive reuse project, the design concept focuses on transforming and reusing the original buildings to meet modern residential needs while preserving the site’s character, creating public value, and contributing to the city.
The landscape design aims to interpret Shanghai’s urban history and culture, continuing the spirit of the 2010 World Expo theme — “Better City, Better Life.” It seeks to create an enhanced version of a beautiful post-Expo lifestyle — Better Life 2.0.
The design concept is organized around the three poetic themes of “Feng (Wind), Ya (Grace), and Song (Ode)” from The Book of Songs, envisioning a good life that embodies the beauty of nature like “Wind,” the refinement of art like “Grace,” and the celebration of history and memory like “Ode.” Therefore, the design weaves together these three core elements — ecology (Wind), art (Grace), and cultural heritage & memory (Ode) — to create a living environment that is livable, elegant, and rich in cultural depth.
The project’s unique location and environmental conditions play a crucial role in shaping the design. Drawing inspiration from the Huangpu River, the landscape adopts modern and abstract artistic expressions of wave forms as a metaphorical link between ecology, art, and historical memory. Through strategic spatial planning, the design creates a distinctive and iconic residential landscape.
